The CEO and founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, took on a trip to Africa. On his visit, he first visited Nigeria (Lagos) where he participated and learnt about the tech start-ups in the country, he further went to Kenya to learn about mobile money, then, back to Nigeria for the final day of a Tech event in Abuja.
There were things I observed from his visit and will like to share them with you.
- Nigeria has got the numbers.
Why do you think Nigeria was his first location of choice? Not because they are better or have sweeter tech start-ups than any other african country, its because, Nigeria has the numbers. Nigeria is the largest black race and the largest n africa. He’s (Mark Zuckerberg) services run here, which means he gets the most patronage from Nigeria.
- Kenya is really interested in protecting its wildlife culture.
Apart from Mark running ha official business in Kenya, he took his time to get around Kenya’s wildlife tourism side which he really loved. This shows you that in Kenya, tourism is taken seriously and they protect their wildlife generously.
- South Africa is overrated
Why didn’t Mark visit South Africa? Yes you might say, the visit was meant for the sub-saharan african countries, but I believe, its mostly because South Africa is highly overrated. With there mostly being the first place any international figure based outside africa visits when he/she first steps into the continent, it would have been highly predictable if Mark Zuckerberg did same.
- Ghana has some publicity to do
Ghanaian’s are not happy with the exclusion of the country from Mark’s visit. I believe this is NOT becaue there are no things of high interest and value to Mark in Ghana, there are the likes of the newly launched Sillicon Accra, Meltwater, iSpace, Aseshi University and many many more achieving tremendous heights. But the question is? Are they known outside of Ghana? If the answer was yes, then I’m quite sure Mark would have given Ghana great consideration.
- Mark has a serious side
Learning from pictures of Mark Zuckerberg at the ceremony with the Nigerian president: Muhamadu Buhari? See the suit and that red tie? That shows he has a serious approach to some kind of things. He’s not all fun and playful as we perceive.
In short, there are a lot more to learn from this single visit of the Tech genius Mark Zuckerberg to Africa.
We will like to see more of him.
