With the recent rapid expansion of the movie industry in Ghana known to majority of people as Ghallywood, many Ghanaian movies being produced now, get a lot of international exposure especially in the Nigerian Movie industry referred to as Nollywood.
One of the mediums for the penetration of Ghanaian movies into the African or International market is the popular online "Video on Demand" streaming platform, IrokoTv.
Abdul Salam Mumin of Venus Films (one of the biggest movie production houses in Ghana) recently made a post on social media which sparked a critical comment from a "concerned" Ghanaian.
The post made was captioned:
"Download @irokotvapp and get a subscription voucher to watch all your favourite Ghanaian and African movies right from your mobile phones."
The user asked:
"Am a bit confused.they said 100% nollywood how then will we watch Ghanaian movies?"
Veteran Ghanaian Actress Pascaline Edwards who recently turned 47, also had a say in the discussion saying, the user asked a good question.
Abdul Salam Replied: "@debbydormsNollywood is a blend of both Ghanaian and Nigerian movies"
Seemingly unsatisfied by the answer provided, the user (debbydorms) went further to reply: "Ooo ok but is bad for Ghallywood since Nigeria will take credit for our good work in terms of movies.This is because when u google Nollywood it only makes reference or referres to the Nigerian movie industry and not Ghallywood.sad though.@abdulsalammumuni"
